Supercharge an MVP through Rapid Communication Development.

Rapid communication development is a development methodology that Benmore adopts and involves creating a frictionless environment for communication between stakeholders and developers.

Deadlocked and lost.

So many founders that we talk to come across the same issues when building their MVP. They’re stuck and completely out of touch with their product. They have no idea where their product currently stands and have no idea how to fix the situation.

“Their company shut down. They emailed me the code in a zip file and now I can’t open it!”

- Benmore Prospective Customer

Too often we come across these situations with prospective and current customers. So we decided to do something to change it.

Benmore’s founder tools of the week:

Understanding the difference between MVP development and product development.

First, it’s important to understand what an MVP is supposed to do and who it’s supposed to attract.

That’s an MVP. It’s not the perfect solution, but you are in so much pain as a customer you will use a non-perfect solution to solve your problem.

Michael Seibel, Y Combinator Group Partner

An MVP is your first iteration of your product. It’s supposed to attract the most desperate users that need a solution. It’s not going to be an iPhone, it’s not going to be Google; but it will work and someone will get value from it.

Most importantly, it allows you to collect feedback to rapidly iterate and build. Over many, many cycles of feedback from your users, you can flesh out and develop a complete and comprehensive solution: a complete product.

Product development.

Now, when you have already developed a product, well, your development is going to be a lot different compared to an MVP.

You have users, you cannot push buggy code into production that will affect hundreds if not thousands of people. You need a fleshed out deployment pipeline and testing process.

This mandates the need for a well managed and organized development system that relies heavily on inter-team communication, robust QA audits, and systemized processes. You already know what your product is, who your users are and what they want. You have to maintain trust and quality within the product.

MVP development.

With MVP development, it’s a different ball game. Relating back to earlier, your number one concern is getting your product in the hands of users. Fast!

This relies on one thing - communication between you, the founder, and the developer(s) who are building your product.

The faster that you can adopt the product to changing needs, the better. The faster that the developer can understand your vision and bring your product to life, the better.

However, many development teams keep the founder at arms length, resulting in misaligned goals, scope creep, and lost money.

Benmore’s solution: Rapid Communication Development

In order to combat communication lapses, Benmore structures a development relationship with our customers that cultivates seamless communication.

Forward Deployed Developers

We mandate that our customers are in direct contact with the developers building their application.

Daily stand ups

Every day, your developer sends you a message with what was worked on and if anything was blocked during the previous day’s work.

Rush to demo

As soon as possible, we deploy the application to a demo link so that our customers can see the up to date status of their application as it comes to fruition.

That’s great! What do I have to do as a founder?

Well, any product development is a two-way street. Your team can be on top of their game but it comes down to the founder’s vision and pace that truly supercharges development.

Your developers are technical experts, but it is up to you, the founder, to manage the communication and push the pace.

At Benmore, we encourage our customers to be as hands on as possible. We would love you to meet with your developers on a daily basis, ask them questions, and, importantly, gather feedback from their expertise.

Communication is the name of the game. Simply put, the more you communicate, the better the outcome.
